Celebrating 50 Years of Earth Day!

Did you know that April 22nd marks the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day?  As we adapt to the restrictions of social distancing, one thing we can celebrate is our shrinking carbon footprint. During this newfound journey, we are here to serve our clients today and tomorrow building energy-efficient homes designed to soak in natural light and ventilation. Modular construction maximizes the use of building materials and utilizes waste to energy practices which means far less waste in landfills.  A tighter building envelope combined with the insulation package we include in each home means greater energy efficiency and savings for the homeowner. Our homes are better for the families living in them and for our environment. What are some easy ways to reduce that carbon footprint even more?  Continue to reduce and consolidate trips to the store. Pick up needed items for neighbors and alternate trips to the store with friends. Wash and carry your own reusable shopping bags a

Blueprint for Domestic Bliss

Blueprint for Domestic Bliss

Sharing a home, especially with a member of the opposite sex, presents its own unique challenges. Sometimes a woman isn't too fond of her man's belongings, believing they clash with the decorations or represent a bygone era of his life (usually before he met her) that he ought to forget about already.

For their part, men can sometimes feel overtaken by a woman's need to pull the gender card and flex her interior designing muscle in their home. Along with the rest of their belongings, men need a place for their moose and deer heads, tools, sports equipment, drum set, and remnants of the bachelor/frat era they might not wish to part with. These items need not be relegated to a dark, dank corner of the basement or garage.

End the gender wars and establish space for both of you with a well-plotted home design. Are you a woman trying to accommodate your man's collection of tools or outdoor equipment? Men, do you sometimes shake your heads in disbelief at the sheer volume of shoes, purses, hair products and other girlie items your women have accumulated?

Connecticut Valley Homes can work with you to build space for you both, be it a garage, man cave or bonus room that can accommodate his things and a bathroom or bedroom closet, built precisely to your specifications, to accommodate her items. The planning process will ensure your home features plenty of room for the rest of your belongings while maintaining order and seamlessly storing your things in a way you can both be happy with.

Or, consider your differing lifestyles. Does he like to have the guys over all the time to watch the game on his giant flat screen TV? Does she like to host lots of girls' nights at home? It's easy to add a spacious den or a finished basement to your floor plan where you can both have some fun decorating with paraphernalia from his favorite team, or her favorite designer.

Domestic bliss is one good design away. Stop by our East Lyme office for a no-obligation chat with a Home Design Consultant and tour three of our model homes right on-site. We are open seven days a week for your convenience (closed for Memorial Day Weekend: Saturday, May 28th - Monday, May 30th).
